Our week in Review

Life is weird right now.  Very weird.  But the show goes on for us every day. 

It's spring break for the county school, but unschoolers never have a break because we realize learning happens all the time. 

Cooking things- science and math

Family game night- problem solving/mazes and spelling with scrabble.  Not to mention math with scrabble points. 

We got some 1st grade workbooks for review- didn't make it home before he started working on them.

Puzzle time- it was a map! He noticed some states and read their names. 

Back to the workbook- he got 3 done in the space of 5 days without being asked to do any of it.

Pulled up some learning games online.  Tried the scholastic free stuff which he enjoyed.

He did some crossword puzzles while I watched my shows on Thursday night. 

Friday didn't want to get out of bed- so Ella helped by jumping

He helped write the grocery list.  He needed to add candy and chips. 


Some hands-on science helping me plant the garden on Friday.  

A busy week for sure.  He finished 3 math workbooks- all review stuff- read 5 books, has done jokes every day online out of a book.  Played many games that were learning, did his computer and phone learning games between just fun.

Full Of Hands

The phrase "Full of Hands" is one of many phrases my Differently Wired child has used.  We know what he means, but we have NO IDEA why he says it this way, and continues to despite corrections.  He's actually managed to train the rest of us to say it.    My 10 year old son, Eli, has multiple learning disabilities, ADHD, and a genetic deletion which likely (but no guarantee) is the underlying cause of it.   It's a long story that I've told extensively on my personal blog.  The main post can be found here:  Differently Wired Life    There was also an update as problems during this school year escalated in doing school the way we were:  Differently Wired Update . Full week done! Getting a routine

Week one done and pretty good!  No arguments against school work until Friday.  That's an amazing week in this differently wired house! Monday computer lessons was at grandma's house, but reading time happened at home.... Then we got creative with giant legos and balls on how to make a house with a ball pit! Tuesday and Wednesday computer and reading time, then some more creativity with legos buildings with only a minute to build them! Thursday just a normal school day...BUT I am SO SO proud of Eli for saying that 1st grade Language Arts is too easy for him!  He wants to move up to second grade level because it's too easy.  And it is.  I wanted to encourage Eli to work at where he thinks he's comfortable to start and his recognizing it's too easy and he can move on empowers him to be challenged and that it's a good thing.   Friday was a day of unschool learning shining through.  While exercising, we ended up talking about a friend with a blister o...

China and Math Games!

Today has been a busy busy day!  I think fun overall! Started with getting some blood drawn- that wasn't the highlight of the day!  He was okay until we were in the room.  Then the screaming and kicking started.  Luckily he has easy veins and it only took one poke and we were in and out pretty quickly! Then we decided since we've been enjoying learning about China we'd take a field trip to China!  Kind of.  We went to Epcot at Walt Disney World!   On the way there he said a funny thing while we were talking about our new school type of work.  When I said we need to get him reading some today too he said "No. Reading is not my thing".    It's going to be buddy!  You just won't know it! We started at Soaring Around the World.  We didn't plan ahead so we didn't have fast passes- but we did have a new Math gaming app called Prodigy Math!  We played games during the about 50 minute wait (the gate said 80- so they d...
