Full Of Hands- Our Learning Journey

We finally finished up the first grade work we had set aside today!    I've decided we've mostly mastered all the math concepts as he was able to do those independently. Weak areas in Literature include punctuation, verb tense, preposition use, and pronouns.  Things that are mostly understood but need a little more practice is capital letters, opposites, and possessive nouns. I've got a bunch of second grade resources flagged and printed and ready to go! We also did some science this week which I integrated a youtube video to listen/learn the order of the planets to complete a worksheet. That was a huge hit being on youtube! This week we've continued with the task of reviewing first grade material.  I'm doing this for a few reasons- 1- before the next official school year starts I want to know what he's missing from typical 1-3rd grade ciriculum and I'm happy to see most everything in first grade has been going well.  2- builds up his confidence in work that he's comfortable with.  This eases his stress and also mine! In addition at my parent's house and sometimes at ours he's spending time with making up and playing games that integrates math, writing or both.  We've also started work with chores and housework that he's responsible for to help gain lessons in that.  Here's some pictures of the last week's work. Next week we should finish up first grade, and then on to second!  

The last few weeks overview is basically working on first grade material.  I think we have 1-2 more weeks of going through first grade looking for weaknesses and making sure material is known. The great news is most of this is pretty good with the exception of reading comprehension when Eli does the reading himself.  He does better when read to him, which makes sense since he has to try hard to sound out and recognize words.  After we're done reviewing first grade, we'll move on to second and then third, slowing and taking time whenever we hit any snags.  So far first grade hasn't had any. Whatever works is what works.  I'm hoping by the end of summer to know his weaknesses from 1-3rd grade so we can work on those,...
